Learning - LOL

I went with the Crossroads rear-sets and custom exhaust for the commuter Blast. The daily rider now has a very similar, but just a tad more relaxed, ergonomics than the CR. However the CR is a vastly different ride than the highly modified Blast. Both carry top of the line suspension parts, Brakes, bars, etc. - When I started studying the differences in how the bikes handled - it came down to two things - weight and power. Because the Blast is light and only a 3rd as powerful modified as the Stock-ish CR- I ride it with much more ease, it easily goes deep into the turns, and powers out with all its gusto, and on the "Pace" side of riding I can keep braking to a minimum and easily keep it to twenty over. With this setup goat-trail roads are fun all day long, and can be done at a brisk pace. The CR, on the other hand, due to its weight and power, is all about controlled braking, setting the curve - transitioning, and then powering out controlled as well - the pace can be done, however, the work required for the CR is much more present by the days end. And forget a day of goat trails - I'd be happy to do four hours of goat roads on the CR so far, but I'm getting better, and can now bring it to the same speeds as the single on the moderate twisties.

I've got a long way to go! I love learning!

Remember to ride for leasure!

I was talking to a fellow motorcycle commuter. I asked him if he had went for a ride that weekend, with such great weather, he looked at me shocked. "You know - I had almost forgotten about leisure riding!" - he looked like he had lost and just regained an old friend. I put on the rest of my gear and headed off for home. Most days I'll take a short route, but I also do some nice 'long way to home routes' during the week on the Blast and try to put in at least 50 miles a day for the week end. My best being close to 700 miles total - most of it twisty back roads! I will never forget to get in my 'Recreational Riding' - LOL - it is one of the good things of life.

The Dark side!

How did that tag line - Blasting on the Dark side! - get started?
Is a common question I'm asked. My riding interest was kindled in San Francisco, where it is foggy till 10 am and then the fog starts to set back in after 4 pm. I would go to work in the dark foggy early mornings, and leave for home as sunset and the fog would settle in. Thus the start of meaning for the quote.

The second part of this quote goes to the idea, that as soon as you modify your bike from stock configuration, you are falling into the Darkside - the unknowing side of modifications and their long term effects, hoping for gains in performance. All my modifications are for practical reasons!

Blasting on the Dark Side

Welcome to my Blog.

My true loves are women, Buell motorcycles and food. My motto is "Come over to the Dark Side - we serve milk and cookies with our obsession".

I own a slightly modified CR, a very highly modified Blast, and am working on creating the XBBlast - the handling of the XB via frame, and rear suspension, and the Blast customized tree, forks (customized;0)) wheels and tires combined with a very custom modified Blast motor (starting at stage 3 and going up from there - lol).
